The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Leave Replacement HS Chemistry Teacher (Grades 10, 11) to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.
Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
Teaching students about various aspects of family life, including nutrition, clothing, child development, and financial management.
Administering tests and assignments.
Training and guiding students in job applications and career planning.
Creating interactive, collaborative classroom environments.
Covering topics such as basic nutrition, family economics, relationships, health, and time management.
Communicating with parents and colleagues.
Attending meetings and maintaining professional development standards.
Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.
Work Hours and Benefits:
This long-term substitute position is in our High School with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2025 through Jun 27, 2025.
Salary:
As per LVSEA Teachers contract
Qualifications:
Teaching experience in Chemistry.
Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Science or related field.
Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.
Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.
Emotional stability and strong problem-solving skills.
Training and Education:
NYS Certification in Chemistry (7-12)
