Job Description

The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Per Diem Substitute Elementary Teacher (Grade 3) to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.

• Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.  

• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.

• Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.

• Assess student progress and maintain updated records regularly.  Provide any progress reports, and updates to parents as needed.  Adapt teaching and instructional methods as needed.

• Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.

Location:

• This position is at the Locust Valley Intermediate School with an anticipated start date of June 9, 2025 through June 27, 2025.

Training and Education:

• NYS Certification in Childhood Education (1-6)

Salary:

• $165 per day.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Prior experience teaching Elementary school.

• Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

• Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.

• Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.
