The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Speech Teacher - Probationary to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and present curriculum lesson plans (course materials and related activities) and assignments to students based on various communications topics.
Conduct speech/language evaluations and assess students’ communication skills.
Working with students with a variety of learning, physical and auditory disabilities or disorders that adversely affect their educational performance.
Identifying students who may be at risk for future communication challenges.
Treating students with speech and language issues in the development or support of IEPs.
Assess, evaluate and track student performance and ongoing progress.
Build and manage trusting relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
Keep parents informed of student progress.
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.
Provide in-class and at-home assignments.
Collaborate with teachers on building, evolving lesson plans for a more consistent student learning experience.
Work Hours and Benefits:
This position is at the Middle/High School with an anticipated start date of April 23, 2025. Benefits as per the teachers LVSEA contract.
Training and Education:
NYS Certification: Speech and Language Disabilities
Salary:
Per LVSEA Teachers Contract.
Qualifications:
Previous school experience as a Speech teacher
Proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.
Proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and partner with students & parents in the learning process.
Demonstrated understanding of authentic assessment, data-driven instruction, and methods for gathering and evaluating evidence of deeper learning accounting for learning differences.
Experience with the various co-teach models, collaborative lesson planning, and team-teaching.
Highly skilled with small group and one-to-one instruction.
