Job Description

The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Long-Term Substitute Mathematics Teacher (MS - Grades 7 & 8)  to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.
• Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
• Deliver lessons within an ICT model with a cooperating teacher.
• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Adapt mathematics curriculum for individual, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
• Instructing and guiding students on how to solve complex mathematical equations and concepts to enhance their analytical and logical reasoning skills.
• Developing flexible teaching tools and methods to help students learn mathematics.
• Working with students individually if they need extra help and support in their math coursework.
• Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.

   

Work Hours and Benefits:

This position is in our Middle School with an anticipated start date of March 21, 2025 through June 27, 2025.  There are no benefits with this position.

Training and Education:

• NYS Certification in Mathematics (7-12)

Job Qualifications

• In depth knowledge of Mathematics.
• Special Education background or certification is a plus.
• Experience in an ICT setting is a plus.
• Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.
• Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.
• Emotional stability and strong problem-solving skills.
