Job Description

The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a (2025-2026 School Year) Leave Replacement Special Education Math MS Teacher to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. 

REQUIREMENTS:	NYS Certification Students with Disabilities 7-12 NYS Certification Students Math 5-9 preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:	The leave replacement teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum. Develop and design lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans (in support of students IEPs) provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students. Develop new ideas and concepts through a variety of strategies to help students uncover new ideas of their own. Modifies existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual students’ special needs.   Adapt mathematics curriculum for individual, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students. Instructing and guiding students on how to solve complex mathematical equations and concepts to enhance their analytical and logical reasoning skills. Developing flexible teaching tools and methods to help students learn mathematics. Working with students individually if they need extra help and support in their math coursework. Build relationships with students and their families through regular communication on IEP progress and feedback. Develop and design lesson plans and assignments in support of students IEPs. Assess, evaluate and track student performance and ongoing progress.

SALARY:	According to the LVSEA Teachers Contract

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior Special Education/Math teaching in secondary school preferred.  Strong background in 8th grade Math. Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students. Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies. Strong problem-solving skills.
