Job Description

The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Leave Replacement HS Chemistry Teacher (Grades 10, 11) to join our team in providing a safe, nurturing and challenging classroom environment devoted to helping all students reach their full potential. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.

  • Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.

  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.

  • Teaching students about various aspects of family life, including nutrition, clothing, child development, and financial management.

  • Administering tests and assignments.

  • Training and guiding students in job applications and career planning.

  • Creating interactive, collaborative classroom environments.

  • Covering topics such as basic nutrition, family economics, relationships, health, and time management.

  • Communicating with parents and colleagues.

  • Attending meetings and maintaining professional development standards.

  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.

Work Hours and Benefits:

This long-term substitute position is in our High School with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2025 through Jun 27, 2025.

Salary:

  • As per LVSEA Teachers contract

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in Chemistry.

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Science or related field.

  • Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to engage, motivate and challenge students.

  • Understanding of modern teaching techniques and use of classroom technologies.

  • Emotional stability and strong problem-solving skills.

Training and Education:

  • NYS Certification in Chemistry (7-12)
